 A standout amongst the most very much arranged and firmly manufactured, the Ahamadnagar land fortification is arranged in the focal point of the cantonment in the eastern piece of the city. Oval fit as a fiddle, the fortress is about 1.70km in circuit and is reinforced by 24 bastions.

The Ahamadnagar post was worked by Husain Nizam Shah in 1559 AD. The post was blockaded by the immense Mughal armed force in 1596 AD, yet the army driven by Chandbibi valiantly challenged

the assault for four months and the Mughals needed to beat a retreat. In the following assault in 1600 AD, the fortress was caught by

Akbar. It stayed with the Mughals till 1759 Ad, when it was offered to Sadashiv Bhau, the cousin of the third Peshwa. In 1797 AD, the fortification was alloted to Daulatrao Shinde, from whom it was caught by

 General Welleslay in August, 1803. At long last under the Treaty of Pune (June, 1817 AD) the fortification was given over to the British by Bajirav Peshwa II.

The Ahamadnagar post was regularly utilized as regal jail, both by the Marathas and the British, Nana Phadnis, who was instrumental in detaining numerous Martha aristocrats in this fortress was himself secured up in the stronghold by Daulatrao Shinde. During the Quit India

Movement of 1942, the whole Congress Working Committee was kept here. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru composed his renowned work Discovery of India while in repression at the Ahamadnagar fortification.
